The U.S.-Nigeria Business Council (USNBC) was established to strengthen mutual understanding between the private sectors of the United States and Nigeria and to promote trade and investment between the two countries.

The Council serves as a bilateral business promotion organization, working with American and Nigerian companies to identify opportunities, build commercial relationships, and navigate the complexities of doing business across both markets.

Drawing on its business networks, market knowledge, and relationships with relevant stakeholders, the Council aims to make cross-border business development more accessible and effective.

Quite simply, we help make business happen between the United States and Nigeria.

We provide business advice and support to U.S. and Nigerian companies seeking to establish, develop, or strengthen commercial relationships in either market.

Our business advisory services have included:

  • Market research and analysis: Examining trade, economic, industry, and regulatory issues that affect business decisions.

  • Partner identification: Helping companies identify and assess potential business partners.

  • Business introductions: Supporting connections and meetings that can advance commercial objectives.

  • Market expansion support: Helping companies with an existing presence explore further growth opportunities.

  • Business relationship support: Helping clients address early challenges as new commercial relationships develop.

  • Visa facilitation: Providing relevant assistance for eligible business-related travel, subject to applicable requirements.

We support both American companies pursuing opportunities in Nigeria and Nigerian companies seeking to expand into the United States.

Our approach is guided by the needs of the businesses we serve. We aim not only to facilitate introductions but also to help companies navigate the process of developing sustainable commercial relationships.

Membership is intended for businesses that are interested in developing international commercial relationships between the United States and Nigeria.

U.S. companies

American businesses seeking to enter the Nigerian market or expand their existing presence can benefit from market insights, business connections, and advisory support tailored to their objectives.

Nigerian companies

Nigerian businesses seeking U.S. partners, exploring regional or industry-specific markets, or identifying key decision-makers can use the Council's network and services to support their market expansion efforts.

Membership is particularly relevant to established businesses with the commitment and capacity to pursue international opportunities.

Expanding into another market requires more than identifying an opportunity. Businesses also need reliable information, relevant contacts, and an understanding of the commercial environment.

The Council's membership offering has included services and opportunities designed to help companies:

  • Identify potential customers, distributors, and business partners.

  • Access relevant market intelligence and research.

  • Promote their products and services to a wider business audience.

  • Explore trade and investment opportunities.

  • Connect with business leaders and relevant stakeholders.

  • Obtain advisory support for market entry and expansion.

  • Participate in selected events and business engagement activities.

Historically, the Council has also offered complimentary consulting hours and certain visa facilitation services, alongside discounted rates for additional services.

Members have received priority consideration for selected research requests, visa facilitation, and event invitations.

Specific benefits, complimentary services, fees, and eligibility requirements should be confirmed with the Council before applying.

The Council's original published description highlights its work through business advisory services, trade missions, and event programs to help U.S. and Nigerian businesses develop commercial opportunities.

Its stated approach includes providing tailored advisory support, sharing market intelligence, and arranging meetings with relevant business contacts and decision-makers.

The Council has historically reported that its work could help generate several hundred million dollars in new business deals.

The objective of these activities is to help companies better understand their target markets, establish useful commercial relationships, and pursue opportunities for growth.

Note: The historical business-deal figure should be published as a current performance claim only if the Council can verify the amount, timeframe, methodology, and supporting evidence.

If your company is interested in membership, the process begins with completing a membership application.

After receiving your application, the Council's team can discuss your business objectives, the market you intend to enter or expand in, and the type of support that may be appropriate for your needs.

This discussion can also help determine which membership package best aligns with your company's goals.

Membership has historically been aimed at established businesses positioned to conduct international business.
